February 5, 2020

In honor of black history month, each February the trending hashtag #28daysofblackcosplay gains more and more traction. This year thanks to our leap year it’s #29daysofblackcosplay! For those who are unfamiliar with the tag, it originated as a way for Cosplayers of color to gain followers, support and make like-minded friends among the cosplay community.

For most, this hashtag is more much more than clout; it’s a chance to beat back racism, colorism and discrimination in general. It’s a home/ place to belong to the wayward nerds, those POC who haven’t had a chance to feel included in most social cliques. It’s for those who felt like outcasts to be able to share, encourage and help one another grow. Cosplay is nothing to sniff at either, the time dedication and skill it takes to hone and perfect a cosplay into what you envision is immense. Check these out:

Aren’t these fantastic?! As of recent the cosplay community has been seeing a recent influx of POC cosplayers, and we’re here for it! Cosplay is for any and every age, gender, and race, we stan #Cosequality! For more amazing cosplays check out the #29daysofblackcosplay tag on any social media and give your favorites some love!!
