With the success of last year’s Straight Outta Compton, added focus has been leant to prospective hip-hop biopics. Production is underway on the long-anticipated Tupac film All Eyez On Me, and yesterday, Boosie Badazz shared a photo on Instagram suggesting his own biopic will soon receive the big screen treatment.
“Me & @Jamalgravywoolard aka Biggie n talks with the real sharks of the movie industry n it’s official,” Boosie wrote. “‘BOOSIE’ the movie is on the way!! be on the look out for casting call , This Movie will be epic.”
Woolard was recently tapped to reprise his role as Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G. for All Eyez On Me after starring as the slain rapper in 2009’s Notorious, Biggie’s own biopic. It would appear that Woolard’s industry connections helped play a role in establishing Boosie’s film, though details beyond Boosie’s announcement have yet to surface.
Boosie’s own life has been full of tragedy and adversity, which most recently includes nearly five years in the Louisiana justice system, a first degree murder charge and a battle with cancer that resulted in an operation to remove half of his kidney.
Following the procedure, Boosie wrote via social media, “I want to thank each and everyone for all the support and love. Surgery went well..God is good! Next step recovery! Cancer has been removed from Boosie kidney… Thanks to all Boosie family and friends and all my real Boosie fans for all the prayers from #badazzmusicsyndicate… I am a #cancersurvivor. please pray for my recovery I will be n rehab learning to walk again n build my strength so I can get back to the business thanks again for your prayersGODISGREAT.”
With a newfound lease on life, perhaps Boosie is taking action to ensure the lasting impact of his legacy. A biopic would certainly advance that end. We will be on the look out just as Boosie suggests, should any news regarding the film develop.
