Our team at Presidential Style got a chance to sit down with the newest member of Bravo’s hit reality TV show Married to Medicine, Dr. Heavenly Kimes, to discuss the show, adjusting to life post-television debut, and all that she has coming up! Check out our interview with the new reality star below:
PS: With solid numbers, Married to the Medicine is third in Atlanta’s reality show offerings. How are you feeling about being a new cast member on this season on Bravo?
Dr. Heavenly: I am so excited. This is a new experience for me, and I am loving every bit of it. Last season’s premiere, got 1.7 million viewers, and this season got 2.4 million viewers. So I like to say that they needed Dr. Heavenly to spice things up, and bring in some more viewers! I have learned a lot along the way, and I am still learning. I’ve also had the opportunity to meet some awesome women.
PS: Being that there were existing dynamics among the women on the show, how easy or difficult has it been to integrate yourself within the group?
Dr. Heavenly: Well, I think it’s been an easy transition. I knew Mariah, Quad, and Toya prior to the show. Our husbands actually work together. I also knew some of the other women prior to the show. So I didn’t really have a problem adjusting.
PS: Initially on season 1 you made the decision not to participate. Was there any particular reason(s)? What made you change your mind to join the popular Bravo series for its second season?
Dr. Heavenly: Well, I wasn’t really sure that reality TV was the route I wanted to take. I’m a successful dentist, business owner, etc., and I wasn’t sure how reality TV would fit into everything I had going on. BUT I figured that I could join the cast, come in, bring some good energy, some humor and positivity to the show. You know, come in and FIX it, because that’s what I do; fix things. Also knowing business I realized it could definitely be a stage to get people hear my true message.
PS: How does your family feel about your growing attention as a reality star? How are they adjusting to the new attention?
Dr. Heavenly: My husband, Dr. Damon Kimes, is my biggest supporter. He supports me in everything that I do. He is my rock, and he has been by my side in all of this. My children actually go to a private school that has many real celebrities so they don’t stand out at all.
PS: Outside of the obvious connection to the medical field, what makes Married to Medicine different from Bravo’s Real Housewives franchise?
Dr. Heavenly: The cast of Married to Medicine is extremely educated. Most of the cast members are doctors, and all have college degrees and most are successful in their own right. We show that you can have a successful career, as well as a successful home life. We are all married. We don’t claim to be perfect, but we are showing that African American families can be married, achieve success, and can inspire others to do the same thing.
PS: What made you decide that dentistry was the career for you?
Dr. Heavenly: Coming from the rough streets of Miami-Dade county, I always knew from a young age that I wanted more. I went to undergrad on a full Presidential scholarship while in college And my major was pre med. A recruiter came to my school, and talked to me about dentistry. I knew right then and there, that this was the career for me. I also knew that eventually, I wanted to get married and have children. With dentistry, you can set your own schedule. Your schedule is more flexible. I can make good money, and still have time to cook a meal, and help my children with their homework.
PS: What projects/initiatives do you have coming up that you want to let our readers know about?
Dr. Heavenly: Dr. Heavenly University! On May 2nd of this year, I will be holding my Dr. Heavenly University conference. I feel it’s my calling to educate people about how to manage their money, how to save, and how to start and maintain their own business, so that they can eventually create generational wealth. I love talking to people about the mistakes I’ve made over the years. And I always tell people that I’ve made the mistakes, so you won’t have to! I encourage people to register at www.drheavenly.com. Dr. Simone from M2M will be one of the speakers.
PS: Tell us about your style, how do you express your sense of style professionally?
Dr. Heavenly: Well coming into this. I used to only wear scrubs and tennis shoes. And I had never really shopped for clothes. On the show you will see my progress as I try new things and become comfortable in the look I think is best for me.
PS: How can our readers keep up-to-date with you and all that you have going on? Social media handles?
