Support The Port Foundation Inc. & Alquon’s Angels brought together families from all over Wilmington to fellowship and be entertained from local talent during their Stop The Violence Holiday Talent Show and Toy Drive. The Stop The Violence Holiday Talent Show & Toy Drive took place in the heart of the community at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, hosted by Cedric Harrison (Founder of Support The Port Foundation Inc) & Sandra “The Midday Miss” McClammy (Personality on Coast 97.3). This event was for families and friends in the community to come out, and celebrate the talent of our youth, while also giving back for a good cause. The musical experience was provided by Coast 97.3 DJ K. Grady as guest came in to grab a seat, and kids enjoyed pizza sponsored by Support The Port. The Stop The Violence Holiday Talent Show and Toy Drive started off with a “hit the quan” contest for the kids that inspired a hilarious “hit the quan” contest for the parents. Following the contest was a moment of silence for all the people in our community that we have lost due to violence. Attendees enjoyed several performances during the event, in between performances they also enjoyed speeches from influential leaders within the community including Kevin Spears (New Hanover County Board of Education Candidate) and Blanco Dinero (Rapper/Bail Bondsman) . On the way out the door, Support The Port gave away their “Stop The Violence” signs to everyone that came out to the event.
Support The Port’s Special Events Coordinator and Founder of Alquon’s Angels Kwanishia Nelson has been producing this event for the past 4 years, and it keeps getting bigger and better. Every year toys are collected for families in need during the holidays. This year we were able to help 30+ kids, but we had a special presentation of presents for one kid in particular. A young king who was one of four people attacked by a man with a machete at Greentree Apartments. His mother, and his 20-month-old sister were slain. So to show him love during this time of pain, Kwanishia made sure he got all of the presents he wanted for Christmas plus more, and presented this to him and his family during the talent show.
